01 — Overview

The challenge

Agentic SI is moving from demonstration to deployment, but many initiatives start with the technology instead of the process. Business owners need to judge which tasks suit agents, where people must stay in control, and how to specify workflows that are reliable, auditable and worth automating.

About this workshop

Agents are SI systems that plan steps, use tools and act within defined limits. This workshop gives process owners and business leads the understanding to identify good agent use cases, redesign workflows around collaboration between people and agents, and write specifications that technical teams or no-code builders can implement safely.

02 — Who it is for

  • People managers
  • Functional specialists
  • Technical & digital teams
  • All professionals
  1. 06.1Process owners, operations managers and business analysts.
  2. 06.2Transformation, automation and continuous-improvement teams.
  3. 06.3Product owners working with technical teams on SI projects.
  4. 06.4Functional leaders evaluating agent-based tools from vendors.

Recommended prerequisites

  • Working experience with SI assistants.
  • Familiarity with the processes of your own function. No programming required.

Level: Practitioner

For regular SI users who want reliable, role-specific results.

03 — Learning objectives

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. 01Explain how agents plan, use tools, access data and hand over to people.
  2. 02Assess processes for agent suitability using value, risk and feasibility criteria.
  3. 03Redesign a workflow with clear roles for people, agents and conventional automation.
  4. 04Write an agent specification: goals, tools, permissions, escalation rules and success measures.
  5. 05Define human oversight, monitoring and evaluation for an agentic workflow.

04 — Curriculum

2 days, 6 modules. In live virtual delivery each day runs as two half-day sessions.

Day01

  1. How agents work

    • From assistant to agent: planning, tools and memory
    • Patterns: single agent, workflow with SI steps, multi-agent orchestration
    • Live demonstrations and typical failure modes
  2. Finding the right use cases

    • Task characteristics that suit agents
    • Value, risk and feasibility scoring
    • Hands-on: assessing processes from your own function
  3. Redesigning the workflow

    • Mapping the current and future state
    • Dividing work between people, agents and rules-based automation
    • Handover and escalation design

Day02

  1. Specifying an agent

    • Goals, inputs, tools and permissions
    • Instructions, knowledge sources and guardrails
    • Writing a specification builders can implement
  2. Oversight and evaluation

    • Human-in-the-loop checkpoints
    • Test scenarios and edge cases
    • Metrics, monitoring and continuous improvement
  3. Business case and next steps

    • Costs, benefits and risks
    • Pilot design
    • Presenting the redesigned workflow

05 — Practice & tools

Hands-on exercises

  1. 01Use-case scoring: assess ten candidate processes and select the best pilot.
  2. 02Workflow redesign: map the current and future state of a selected process.
  3. 03Specification writing: produce an agent specification and have another team critique it.
  4. 04Failure-mode review: identify what can go wrong and design controls.

Practical skills developed

  1. 01Process mapping and task decomposition for SI.
  2. 02Use-case assessment and prioritization.
  3. 03Human-in-the-loop design and escalation rules.
  4. 04Agent specification writing.
  5. 05Defining evaluation criteria and operating metrics.

Tools, technologies and workflows

Agent platforms (demonstrated)
e.g. Microsoft Copilot Studio and the agent features of OpenAI, Anthropic and Google
Workflow automation
e.g. Power Automate, Zapier, Make or n8n
Process mapping
BPMN-style mapping and digital whiteboards

Product names are examples, not endorsements. Private workshops use your organization’s approved tools; our teaching is vendor-neutral.

Technology maturity: Emerging

Agent capabilities are advancing quickly and are used in production for bounded tasks. The workshop separates proven patterns from experimental ones, such as fully autonomous multi-agent systems.

Maturity map

06 — Outcomes

Participants can tell valuable agent use cases from technology-driven ones.

Expected outcomes

  • Workflows are redesigned with clear human accountability.
  • Business and technical teams share a common specification format.
  • Pilot proposals include oversight and evaluation from the start.

Participants leave with

  1. 01A scored use-case portfolio for your function.
  2. 02A redesigned workflow map with the roles of people and agents.
  3. 03An agent specification and pilot proposal ready for technical review.
